LINDA RUAN
PIANIST // ADVENTURER
HELLO!
Welcome! My love affair with music began nearly two decades ago in a tiny town in southern China. At the age of four, I began taking lessons on the drum kit. Three years later, I found myself in the slightly bigger town of Shanghai, taking my first piano lessons. Though not immediately apparent, slowly and inevitably, I fell in love with the music and the adrenaline rush that came with performing on stage.
Feel free to poke around the website to see my upcoming performances, media material and videos!
MY STORY
THE BEGINNING
I was born in Tokyo, Japan to a Chinese family. Much of my childhood was spent running around outside, playing with friends, watching TV. We travelled often between China and Japan. My first encounter with music happened happily during these years. I first picked up the drums when I was four in China;ย sang in the school choir, and even learned the melodica in Japan! My love for music and performance began here. I didn't pick up piano until I was seven in Shanghai.
FIRST YEARS WITH THE PIANO
I began my journey with the piano when I was in first grade in Shanghai. It was a difficult relationship: my parents could barely get me to sit at the piano for more than fifteen minutes at a time to practice. After immigrating to Vancouver, Canada with my family when I was nine - piano became my constant companion through all the different changes in my life. And without realizing it, I couldn't imagine my life without music.
PRESENT DAY
Flash forward more than a decade later, I have the unbelievable privilege of studying music, most recently at The Glenn Gould School in Toronto and The Juilliard School in New York City. I am so grateful for all the support and good fortune along the way. It's hard to fathom the power of connections that I've been able to forge with music in my career thus far. I hope I will be able to continue to touch people in all the avenues of music I explore. Now, I'm continuing my studies at the Tianjin Juilliard School. Be sure to follow me on my social media channels to keep in touch!
